Story On Alex Hales- A Destructive English Opener

Alexander Daniel Hales, popularly known as Alex Hales, is one of the most destructive opening batters worldwide from England. He was born 3rd of July in 1989 at Hillingdon in Middlesex. Hales is a proper right-arm opening batter and his aggressive batting approach made him one of the best batters in the limited-overs format in cricket. 

For many years Alex Hales holds the record of scoring a century in the T20 format in the entire England team. It was great breaking news sports cricket when it happened.

Alex Hales for the first time grabbed the attention of everyone at just the of 15 when he scored 55 runs in a single over during the London County Cricket’s Club Founder Day in the year 2005 at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground. In 2006, Hales played for the Buckinghamshire country cricket team and in 2007 he represented the MCC Young Cricketers in the Second 11 Championship. 

At the age of 18, Hales got the chance to play at the Nottinghamshire trial and there he scored a blistering knock of 218 runs against Derbyshire in the year 2007 and for that innings, he achieved a two-year contract with them. 

In 2008, he played the U19 test and ODI where he scored 149 runs from just 2 matches and 129 runs from 5 matches respectively. In 2011 Hales played the Friends Life T20 series where he scored 544 runs in total at a monstrous strike rate of 146. This performance of him had led him closer to England’s national team.    

Hales’s Debut International Matches

On August 2011 in Manchester, Hales played the first T20 match of his career for England, but unfortunately, he got out after facing just two deliveries against India. He played his second T20 match at the Oval against the West Indies in the same year in September but there he showed his talent and scored 62 runs not out knock.

His top performances and several blistering knocks earned him his ODI call-up for England against West Indies but he was ruled out because of his injury. In 2014 in Cardiff, Hales finally got the chance to play the first ODI match of his career against India where he scored solid 40 runs.

On December 2015, Hales earned his Test cap for England but could not perform that well as he got out after scoring 36 runs only. 

Alex Hales Cricketing Career To Date

Alex Hales is a very renowned name in the international cricket circuit because of his great performances over the years. To date, Hales has played 70 ODI matches where he scored 2419 runs at a respectable average of 37.93. Hales also played 75 T20I matches where also he scored over 2000 runs with a blistering strike rate of 138.35. Though he is never known for test cricket still he played a total of 11 matches and was able to score 573 runs at a moderate batting average of 27.28 with 5 half-centuries. 

Hales is a dominant name when it comes to the shortest format of the game. In his career, he played several T20 matches in various leagues and tournaments. To date, Hales played a total of 374 T20 matches apart from his international career where he scored over 10,000 runs at a respectable average of 30.71 with 67 half-centuries and 5 centuries. 

Alex Hales also has a very good List A and First Class cricket career. In his whole cricketing career, Hales played a total of 175 List A matches where scored 6260 runs with a 38.40 batting average along with 32 half-centuries and 17 centuries. 

Hales also played over 100 First Class matches and here also he scored over 6500 runs with a great batting average of 37.81 along with 13 centuries and 38 half-centuries with a highest score of 236 runs in one inning.  

Hales Career Rising To Glory

Hales’s batting style always suits the shortest format of the game in cricket and he is well known worldwide because of his several match-winning performances in this format over the years. In 2012 at Trent Bridge, Hales missed his first century in his T20I career against the West Indies cricket team by just one run. 

The 2014 ICC T20 World Cup was pretty much memorable not only for him but for his fans also because there he scored the first century of his career, scoring 116 runs from facing 64 deliveries only at Chittagong against the Sri Lankan cricket team. 

On February 2016, Hales scored half-centuries in consecutive three matches against the Strong South African team in the ODI format which also earned him the player of the series award as well. In that same year, only six months after the South African series, Hales scored a brilliant 171 runs knock at Trent Bridge against a strong bowling attack of Pakistan and to date, it is the highest score scored by any player in the England team in the ODI format. 

Alex Hales’s Low Points In Career

Alex Hales is a renowned name as an opening batter worldwide. Wherever he plays in his career he showed how capable a batter he is especially in the opening position. But his Test career has never into the limelight because of his mediocre performances. 

To date, he only played 11 test matches where his performance was not up to his standards. Though many people say that Alex Hales is not a quality batter to become successful in the Test format. But the main reason is he never used to enjoy playing test matches and that is why he never tried to become that patient to become a good test batter.

Alex Hales always enjoys playing limited-overs games where he can show his destructive batting nature and he is best at that for his country and several other teams worldwide also. 

Alex Hales is a brilliant batter in the opening position and his performance in the recently included ICC T20I World Cup in Australia can be an example where he helped the team to win their first T20 World Cup trophy along with his teammate and captain Josh Buttler. Due to his brilliant and dominant performance throughout the tournament, he has also been included in the best 11 of the entire tournament from all teams by ICC.
